Attention 2008-2009 Wrestlers...

Practice Schedule: Week of Nov 17th (PLEASE NOTE: THERE ARE NO LATE BUSES ON FRIDAYS)

Monday 11/17:   Varsity & JV Practice 2:30-5pm

Tuesday 11/18-11/21: Varsity & JV Practices will be staggered due to high numbers & safety concerns (times TBA by 11/17 in the evening - suggested times will be 2:30-4:30pm and 6:00-8:00pm. These times will alternate by level - JV may go on the earlier shift and varsity on the later shift and then alternate the next day)

Wednesday 11/19: MANDATORY MEET THE COACHES NIGHT & ATHLETIC CODE OF CONDUCT . Meeting is at 7pm in the Columbia High School auditorium.

**   A PARENT OR GUARDIAN MUST ACCOMPANY THEIR SON OR DAUGHTER**

Saturday 11/22: MANDATORY NYS WEIGH-IN WEIGHT CERTIFICATIONS at Schalmont High School.

* If you do not do this weigh or happen to miss it you will NOT be able to compete in the sport of wrestling at Columbia HS or any school in New York State. This is mandated by the state for the safety of your child.

* Bus leaves Columbia HS at 8:45 am. Our scheduled weigh in time is at 9:40am. Our team will get a workout in after the weigh-in. We plan on leaving Schalmont by 12:30 and returning to Columbia HS by 1:15pm. Please bring either a lunch or money to purchase food and drink. Also bring all your wrestling practice gear and clean clothes to change into after showering.

* All wrestlers have been issued Blue emergency cards, if they have not be turned in yet they will be due by Wednesday meet the coaches night at the latest.

Wrestlers are to bring the following for practice: T-shirt, Shorts, Wrestling Shoes, running shoes, Headgear ( The school will provide one if you don`t have one), Hooded sweatshirt or an outdoor type  jacket, shower necessities (towel, soap, clean clothes, etc..) The wrestlers will be running outside every day so bring something warm and comfortable to run in.

Zach Crain`s " HOMECOMING"will be Saturday November 29th at in the Journeymen /Brute Northeast College Duals. Zach is now Wrestling for D1 Binghamton University and will wrestle four matches starting with the defending National Champions Iowa in his first match. Be there to support him!!

Zach Crain selects Division 1 Binghamton University

Final selection came down to Appalachian State, North Carolina and Binghamton. Zach will wrestle for Pat Popolizio and now be a Binghamton Bearcat. We all look forward to watching him wrestle and will get the chance to see him when Binghamton wrestles at HVCC in the Northeast Duals in November. Zach will sign his National letter of intent sometime within the next two weeks at Columbia. We will let you know of the signing date as we will have a reception following the signing.

Zach Crain- 5W-2L (Top 12 Finish with 74 wrestlers in the weight class). Zach Defeated 4 State Champions from Minnesota, New Jersey, Washington and Georgia enroute to his top 12 showing.

Zach Crain - 2008 Section II ChampSection II Place Finishers

Zach Crain placed 1st at 135 lbs in the 2008 Section II State Qualifer held at the Glens Falls Civic Center. In addition to Zach, Brian Latham (130 lbs) placed 4th, Adam Hulett (119 lbs) placed 5th and Evan Wallace (103 lbs) placed 6th

Zach is a New York State Finalist and Top 12 Finisher at the National Championships held in Virginia Beach

ZACH CRAIN BREAKS RECORD FOR NUMBER OF WINS AT COLUMBIA HIGH SCHOOL

Zach now has 200+ Varsity Wins. He went undefeated at the Mt. Anthony Duals where he got his 200th victory. Former Columbia Wrestler & NY
State Champ Justin Hellwig was the previous record holder with 193 wins.


The Columbia Varsity Wrestling Team wrestled in the Virginia Duals in Hampton, Virginia on Jan 11-12 2008.
